About Me
Hi,
I’m so grateful you’re here.
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little more about the heart behind Freedom to Go.
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy with more than 10 years of experience in pediatric physical therapy. Early in my career, I worked in a multidisciplinary cystic fibrosis clinic, where I supported children navigating complex medical needs, including chronic constipation and stress urinary incontinence. Working closely with gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, and other specialists, I saw how deeply bowel and bladder challenges can affect a child’s confidence, daily comfort, and overall quality of life.
Over time, I pursued advanced training in pediatric pelvic floor therapy and have spent the past three years specializing in bowel and bladder dysfunction in children. I’ve collaborated closely with GI and urology providers and have come to recognize something important:
So many children struggle quietly with these issues and many are underserved.
Bowel and bladder dysfunction is rarely “just constipation.” It often sits at the intersection of pelvic floor coordination, breathing and pressure management, posture, nervous system regulation, interoception (body awareness), and emotional experiences like anxiety or embarrassment.
When only one piece is addressed, progress can stall. But when we take a whole-body, whole-child approach, meaningful and lasting change becomes possible.
I created Freedom to Go because I believe children deserve more than symptom management. They deserve confidence, independence, and the ability to participate fully in school, sports, sleepovers, and everyday life without fear or shame.
There is something powerful about watching a child:
Let go of fear.
Let go of control.
Let go of accidents and worry.
And finally… let go physically.
Freedom to Go is about restoring connection between the brain and body. It’s about helping children feel safe and comfortable in their own bodies again.
I’m honored to be on this journey with you, and I look forward to supporting your family.
Warmly,
Candace McKinnon, PT, DPT
